Cameron Logwood got going early and Urbana defeated visiting Shawnee, 65-42, Tuesday night in Central Buckeye Conference non-divisional boys basketball.
Urbana (2-1) jumped out to a 12-0 lead before Shawnee responded and Logwood couldn’t miss early in the game. He scored 12 points in the first quarter en route to a 25-11 first-period lead for Urbana.
“I’m pretty happy. We got off to a really good start, which is big,” Urbana Coach Jeremy Dixon said. “We have a lot of respect for Shawnee and their program, so I’m really happy with tonight’s win.”
Shawnee competed the rest of the way, but could never really close the gap. The physical Braves matched the Hillclimbers point-for-point in the second quarter, but trailed 36-22 at halftime.
It was more of the same after the intermission, with Urbana pushing its lead to 49-30 after three quarters and pulling away for the win.
“It seemed like every time they made a run to cut it to eight or 10, we were able to score four or six points and stretch it back out,” Dixon said.
Logwood finished with 23 points and Jordan Underwood had 15 for Urbana.
“They made the right play. They did it scoring sometimes, and then when it was time to give it up, they gave it up. They made the right plays tonight, were very under control. Very good game by those two guys,” Dixon said.
The Hillclimbers also won the jayvee game, 41-37. Reid Taylor had 15 points for Urbana.
UHS plays at Indian Lake Friday night.
