M’burg board approves emergency ballot issue

MECHANICSBURG – The Mechanicsburg School Board of Education met on Monday, Dec. 11 at Mechanicsburg Schools.

The building and grounds committee discussed maintenance items including field maintenance and weight room progress.

Paul McMahill reported to the council on behalf of Ohio Hi-Point. He stated the school has received 551 applications so far. He went on to share that this is higher than last year. McMahill also said additional satellite programs will be started next year.

The date for the annual organizational meeting was set for Jan. 9, 2024 directly following the regularly-scheduled board meeting. Calendars for the upcoming 2024/25 school year were discussed. Calendar “A” was decided upon and approved.

A resolution was approved declaring “intent to proceed with election on the question of the renewal of an emergency tax levy.”

Recommendations from Board President Scott DeLong were approved, including membership to the Ohio School Board Association for 2024 at the cost of $4,310, and a motion to authorize participation in the Ohio School Boards Association Legal Assistance Fund for 2024 at a cost of $250.

The board accepted a $400 donation from the Champaign County Democratic Party benefiting the 7th grade Gettysburg research trip and a $1,100 donation from James and Susie Mayo benefiting the 8th grade Washington D.C. trip.

Various supplemental contracts, substitutes and volunteers were approved at the meeting.

The next board of education meeting will be held on Monday, Jan. 9, 2024 at 6 p.m.
