WEST LIBERTY – The members of the Green Hills Kitchen Band performed at Green Hills Community’s Foundation Hall recently. Band Director Marion Palmer was unable to lead the band that day, so Chaplain Ken Neighoff filled in. Songs included “Let Me Call You Sweetheart,” “Hello Dolly,” “My Wild Irish Rose” and “Danny Boy.”
All band members are between the ages of 80 and 90. Musical instruments include piano, violin, harmonica and various gadgets and utensils ordinarily used in a kitchen.
Besides serenading the audience in song, several members delighted the audience with jokes and poems. Leroy Dowden shared a humorous reading, and Luanna Calland showed off her dance moves. Elizabeth Foughty spoke about her childhood doll, Nancy, who was wearing a dress Foughty wore as a baby.
The Green Hills Kitchen Band will be performing at the West Liberty Bicentennial Celebration in July.
