Pilot killed in small plane crash near Springfield
SOUTH VIENNA, Ohio (AP) — The pilot of a small plane has been killed in a crash in Ohio.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the plane went down in a field Sunday afternoon near Interstate 70 in Harmony Township in Clark County. According to media reports 24-year-old Jordan Spier of Wilmington was killed.
According to Federal Aviation Administration records, the plane is listed as an experimental, amateur-built aircraft.
It’s unclear what led to the crash. No other information was immediately available.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
Dad found safe in Ohio after mysterious Texas disappearance
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Police in Ohio say they’ve safely located a man whose mysterious disappearance from the San Antonio area spurred weeks of searching by his family and volunteers.
Police tell the Akron Beacon Journal that a tip led them to 44-year-old Lee Arms in a community near Bath Township. They say he tried to escape his life in Texas and ended up in Ohio after meeting someone online.
Police notified his family but declined to release further details because Arms wasn’t charged with a crime.
The father of three from Falls City, Texas, had vanished Feb. 5. After he didn’t show up for work, his car was found still running and abandoned with its lights flashing, with his wallet and other belongings still at the scene.
Suspect dies after 9-hour hostage standoff in Kent
KENT, Ohio (AP) — A man has died following a hostage situation with police in northeast Ohio.
Police say the male suspect took a woman hostage in the laundry room of an apartment complex in Kent around 12:20 p.m. on Sunday. Authorities say police and SWAT teams evacuated the complex after they responded to an emergency call.
Officials say crews tried to negotiate with the suspect for hours to no avail.
Police say the standoff ended around 9 p.m. Officials say the suspect is now dead. Police did not disclose how the man died.
Police have not identified the suspect.
Authorities say the female hostage was taken to an area hospital. Police say she was not injured.
