Fire sends 4 to area hospitals

An early Monday fire at Rolling Hills Mobile Home Park, south of Urbana, sent two adults and two children to hospitals with burn injuries, officials said.

The fire was called in at 12:13 a.m. Monday at 154 Maplewood Circle, Urbana Fire Chief Mark Keller said. The four individuals exited the mobile home before firefighters arrived.

“Three of the four (individuals) had substantial burns,” Keller said.

Occupants in the home at the time of the fire were Robert Garringer, 31, Kalleen Emmos, 23, and two children whose names and ages are not being released, he said. Garringer is listed in serious condition at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton; Emmons was listed in critical condition, as of 2:10 p.m. Monday.

The four patients were transported by ambulance to Springfield Regional Medical Center, as CareFlight and MedFlight helicopter transports were not flying due to weather, he said. The children were transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw the home fully engulfed. The fire was under control within 25 minutes, Keller said, but the home is a total loss. The heat from the fire melted the siding on a neighboring mobile home, but the fire did not spread to that structure.

A cause for the fire has not been determined, and a damage estimate has not been determined. The Ohio State Fire Marshal is assisting in the investigation.

Mechanicsburg and Moorefield Township fire departments assisted with getting the blaze under control, Keller said.
