Westfall places third at state golf tourney

SUNBURY – Mechanicsburg junior Caleb Westfall shot 74-75 over the weekend at the Division III state boys golf tournament at North Star to place third overall.

He was named to the All-Ohio first team because of his top-five finish.

Westfall’s uncle, Joe Moore, earned the same distinction twice for the Indians in the early 1990s.

Westfall won the Division III district title the week before the state tourney.

WL-S earns co-title

WL-S defeated Southeastern, 5-0, on Saturday to claim a share of the OHC girls soccer title with Greeneview and Springfield Catholic Central.

Scoring goals for WL-S were Taylor Lauck (3), Gabby Hollar and Laura Neer.

Adding sssists were Dierdre McGill (2), Peyton Kerns, Sierra McCall and Bianca Reames.

Paige Shafer and Rachel McGill each had one save in goal.

wls record is 13-2-0 (6-1-0)

WL-S (13-2, 6-1) hosts Newton on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the sectional.

WL-S boys prevail

The WL-S boys soccer team defeated Southeastern, 8-2, on Saturday. Ian Wolfe led the Tigers in scoring with 4 goals and 1 assist. Neil Markin tallied 3 goals and 1 assist. Blake Kaminski had one goal and Ethan Cole and Raiph Levan each had 2 assists. Three Tigers kept the goal. Gavin Harrison had 3 saves, Zach McCall had 3 saves and Raiph Levan had 4 saves.

The Tigers (9-5-2) host Northwestern today at 7 p.m. in the sectional.
