WL-S teams win Ohio Caverns Invitational

The host West Liberty-Salem girls cross country team won the 44th Annual Max Evans Memorial Ohio Caverns Invitational on Saturday. The Big Orange is ranked 13th in the latest DIII OATCC poll.

Mechanicsburg was second. Sophie Boeck was 9th as an individual.

The Big Orange placed six runners in the top 10 with freshman Grace Adams leading the way with a first place time of 20:17.4. Reghan Bieleski was 2nd (20:31.5), Kiana Reames 3rd (22:04.8), Payton Umphries 4th (22:09.3), Lydia Moell 6th (22:23.4), Jenna Magnuson 10th (22:47.9), Lauren Fowler 16th (23:46.1), Julie Parker 20th (24:03.4), Sarah Painter 24th (24:53.7), Anna Louden 38th (25.55.7), Savannah Weaver 46th (27:07.3) and Mikaela Holdridge 57th (30:52.7)

“The girls pushed each other and had big improvements from their times they ran here last month at the Logan County meet. We’re closing the gap between our number one and number five runner and we need to continue to improve on that with each meet,” WL-S Coach Ann Vogel said.

The Tiger boys picked up their second meet victory of the season with a win at the Max Evans Invitational.

“This was by far our best collective team effort of the season and a must needed confidence builder for sure. I was extremely pleased with the whole team, but especially proud of our four seniors,” WL-S Coach Mike Louden said.

Nick Williams placed 2nd in a time of 17:15, with Noah Smith (3rd, 17:43), Michael Conley (4th, 17;57), Charlie Williams (12th, 19:04) and Isaac Smith (19th, 19:30) also scoring for the Tigers. Bryan Woods, Cade Clerico and Caleb Siegenthaler also ran.

WL-S competes at the Buck Creek Invitational on Saturday.

UHS falls in volleyball

Southeastern beat Urbana, 25-23, 26-24, 23-25, 25-19, in non-league volleyball on Saturday.

For the Hillclimbers (8-6), Hunter Rogan had 32 kills and 11 digs, Bridget Ofori had 5 kills, Mackenzie Bean had 10 kills, Taylor Adams hhad 43 assists and Olivia Dunham added 15 digs.

Southeastern won the jayvee match, 25-22, 25-20.

For UHS, Sam Zaborowski had 6 kills., Jennah Adams had 8 digs, Destiny Manuel had 5 assists and 6 digs and Tiana Johnson had 8 assists and 3 digs.

WL-S girls beat Northwestern

West Liberty-Salem beat Northwestern, 3-0, in girls soccer.

Gabby Hollar, Lily Yoder and Sierra McCall each scored. Mikalia McIntosh had an assist, while Paige Shafer made 2 saves.

The jayvee squad tied 0-0. Rachel McGill made 7 saves.

WL-S (8-2-0) hosts Northeastern on Thursday.

Tigers draw with Chiefs

West Liberty-Salem and Bellefontaine played to a 3-3 draw in boys soccer.

Neil Markin had 2 goals for the Tigers and Ethan Cole scored the other. Christian Parker, Blake Kaminski and Markin assisted.

Indians draw with London

Mechanicsburg and London played to a scoreless draw in girls soccer on Saturday. Morgan Hamby had 3 saves, while Tori Jacobs and Kasey Schipfer led the team in shots with 4.
