UHS tops Indians in softball

MECHANICSBURG – Urbana defeated Mechanicsburg, 10-6, in non-league softball on Friday.

For the Hillclimbers, Emma Burnside was 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored, Katy Curnutte was 3 for 5 with a triple and 2 RBI, Hannah Alvoid was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI and a pair of doubles and Sidney Easter was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Alvoid also struck out 10 batters to get the win.

For MHS, Allie Raber was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Elly Schipfer was 1 for 3 with a run scored and 2 RBI and Jessica Maddux was 1 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI. Elysha Stapleton struck out 9 in the loss.

Urbana (6-8) hosts Southeastern on Saturday while M’burg (7-5) plays at Fort Loramie.

WL-S softball wins

WEST LIBERTY – West Liberty-Salem defeated Catholic Central, 18-0, in OHC softball on Friday.

Kenedie Cox had 2 hits, with Grace Woodruff, Kelsey Day, Arrah Sandy, Kiana Reames, Mady Stratton and Olivia Ames also collecting hits.

The West Liberty-Salem jayvee softball team beat Anna, 14-5, on Thursday.

For the Tigers, Tory Cordell had 3 hits, Maddie Estes had 2 hits and Laine Godwin had 2 hits with a two-run homer. Arrah Sandy tripled and Abby Dillon doubled.

WL-S baseball prevails

WL-S beat Springfield Catholic Central, 9-5, in OHC baseball on Friday.

Thomas Allen earned the win. Dillon Callicoat, Trevor Burden and Thomas Allen provided the offense driving in 7 of the Tiger runs. Trevor Burden was 3 for 3 with a triple and 2 RBI, Allen was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and Callicoat was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI.

The Tigers (8-6, 5-4) host Ben Logan on Saturday in a twinbill.

The WL-S jayvee baseball team lost a 21-5 game to Anna on Thursday. The Tigers will play at Benjamin Logan on Saturday.

UHS netters win

Urbana defeated Springfield, 4-1, in non-league boys tennis action on Friday.

In first singles, Mklaine Eggleston lost a 6-1, 6-0 match.

Andrew Fansler won at second singles 6-1, 6-2 and Langston Kitchen won at third singles 7-5, 6-3.

At first doubles, Nick Shank and Greg Coffey won 6-3, 6-2 and in second doubles, Wes Brown and Bailey Ullah won 6-4, 6-3.

Urbana improves to 7-0 overall.
