Urbana police have released the names of those involved in a three-vehicle crash that killed an Urbana woman Friday at 5:38 p.m.
Tanya J. Morgan, 38 years old of Urbana, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident as a result of injuries sustained during the crash. The crash occurred at the entrance to Tractor Supply Company, 1637 East U.S. Route 36.
The preliminary investigation shows a 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII, driven by Lloyd Eaton of St. Paris, was westbound on East U.S. Route 36 and was turning southbound into the drive of 1637 East U.S. Route 36, which is the Scioto Square shopping center. As Eaton’s vehicle made its turn, it was struck by a 1998 Dodge Ram, driven by Derek Ramsey of Urbana. Ramsey’s truck had been eastbound on East U.S. Route 36. The collision then caused Eaton’s vehicle to spin and strike a 2015 Toyota Rav4, driven by Lon Peters of Mechanicsburg, which was stopped in the driveway of 1637 East U.S. Route 36.
Morgan was a front seat passenger in Eaton’s vehicle during the crash. Tiffany Wiford, 20 years old of Urbana, was a back seat passenger in Eaton’s vehicle. Wiford received serious injuries in the crash. Wiford had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of the Urbana Fire Division before being flown to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight. Eaton was transported to Mercy Memorial Hospital in Urbana for minor injuries where he was treated and released.
The Urbana Police Division was assisted in the crash investigation by Champaign County Coroner Dr. Joshua Richards, members of the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office and the Multi-County Crash Investigation Team.
The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this point.
