TROY – The West Liberty-Salem girls cross country team placed 9th at the Division III Southwest Regional on Saturday.

Sophomore Reghan Bieleski qualified for the state meet for the second year in a row, placing 14th in 20:03. The top 4 teams and 16 individuals qualified for the state meet.

“Reghan showed a lot of composure (Saturday),” WL-S Coach Ann Vogel said. “She ran a smart race and put herself in the position to qualify from the start.”

Along with Bieleski, also running for the Big Orange were Caylee Karg (39th, 21:05), Jenna Magnuson (66th, 22:00), Lauren Fowler (67th, 22:02), Leah Cole (82nd, 22:31), Sarah Painter (95th, 23:05) and Taylor Henault (110th, 24:17).

“It was exciting to see the girls put together their best team race of the season,” Vogel said. “We were seeded 12th coming into the race, and to watch us battle and beat some teams we haven’t all season is a gratifying way to end the season.”

This is the eighth season the WL-S girls program will be represented at the Division III state meet.

Also in Division III, Triad’s Holly Cole finished 42nd in 21:10.

The state D-III girls race will be held at National Trail Raceway this Saturday at 11 a.m.

The West Liberty-Salem boys cross country team placed 8th at the Division III regional meet on Saturday.

Joey Adams qualified to the state meet with a second-place finish in 16:08.

“I think that with a few adjustments next week Joey can cap off his career with a podium finish,” WL-S Coach Mike Louden said. “He continues to defy the odds and push himself to limits that only others could dream of.”

Also running for the Tigers were Michael Conley (27th, 17:17), Nick Williams (45th, 17:41), Ross Kelley (48th, 17:44), Andrew Landis (70th, 18:08), Isaac Smith (91st, 18:32) and Jordan Lewis (117th, 19:27).

“Word can’t even begin to describe how proud I was of our program (Saturday), despite not qualifying as a team,” Louden said. “We put ourselves in the mix and that’s all I could ask.”
