NEW CARLISLE – Kenton Ridge defeated Urbana in a Division II boys sectional soccer final at Tecumseh on Tuesday, 4-3.

“We played to the best of our ability. We dominated possession,” UHS Coach Dylan Walker said. “Unfortunately we’re on the losing side of this one. But I’m super proud of my guys.”

The Cougars opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a Colin Foley goal before Urbana’s Cooper Johnson evened the contest with a penalty kick in the 12th minute.

A couple of minutes later, a Kenton Ridge corner kick by Foley bounced off an Urbana defender and found the net for a 2-1 Kenton Ridge lead.

The action was relatively localized to midfield for a time, before Swayde Finch picked up a yellow card in the 50th minute for the ‘Climbers.

In the 64th minute, Urbana finally found an answer when Trevor Adams tied the game.

Just three minutes later, Adams found the back of the net with a richochet off the keeper from the corner and put Urbana ahead.

It was a short-lived lead, with Kenton Ridge’s Foley netting the equalizer in the 68th minute off a free kick. The Cougars found the goal again with Foley just a couple of minutes later for the winning margin.

“The (rainy) weather probably doesn’t help,” Walker said. “We had a couple of bounces that I think under normal circumstances our keeper gets to, tonight they found the back of the net.

“But I’m proud of my guys. They kept their heads up and stayed in it and kept pressuring until the end.”

Urbana tied the school record for wins in a season after claiming the CBC/MRD championship.
