WL-S girls place 11th at Tiffin Carnival

TIFFIN – The West Liberty-Salem girls cross country team placed 11th out of 37 teams in the Tiffin Carnival Invitational D2B race Saturday. The Tiffin Carnival is the 2nd largest cross country meet in the country.

Senior Caylee Karg led the Tigers, placing 32nd out of 236 runners to finish in a career personal best of 21:48. Freshman Lauren Fowler cracked the top 50, placing 44th in 22:11, and also had a career personal best. Also placing for WL-S were Leah Cole (64th, 22:38), Sarah Painter (78th, 23:03), Taylor Henault (129th, 24:26) and Anna Louden (166th, 25:18).

“With our inexperience, a large race like this really tested us, and I’m proud of the effort the girls put forth,” WL-S Coach Ann Vogel said. “Overall, it was another solid team effort and we’re gaining confidence with each meet.”

WL-S competes at the Alliance Invitational in Clayton on Saturday.

The Tiger boys team finished 15th out of 44 teams in the Division III – A race at Tiffin.

Joey Adams ran his season best time of 16:29 to finish 8th. Ross Kelley was 64th (17:55) and Nick Williams was 89th (18:16). Also placing for the Tigers were Andrew Landis (152nd, 19:10), Isaac Smith (162nd, 19:23), Charlie Williams (173rd, 19:30) and Bryan Woods (194th, 20:03).

“Coming into the meet we were hoping for a top-12 finish and to miss out on that was a little disappointing,” WL-S Coach Mike Louden said. “However, we realized just how close we are in relationship to our district and regional competition (Botkins 12th, Milton-Union 13th and Russia 19th), so looking at it that way I’m very pleased.”

The WL-S jayvee boys competed at the Spencerville Bearcat Invitational.

Jordan Lewis was 24th, Tyler Louden was 41st, Konner Smith was 45th, Zavier Esch was 53rd and Kannon Stillings was 78th.

WL-S boys soccer wins

The West Liberty-Salem boys soccer team defeated Southeastern, 8-3, in OHC action. Cole McDaniel led the Tiger attack with 3 goals and 3 assists. Raiph Levan and Neil Markin each scored 2 goals and had 1 assist apiece. Thomas Allen had a goal, while Mason Woodruff and Logan Cole each had an assist.

Elias Kirker-Napiorkowski had 2 saves in goal. The Tigers are now 5-4 on the season and play Southeastern on Thursday at home at 7:30 p.m.

WL-S girls net a win

West Liberty-Salem defeated Southeastern, 9-1, in OHC girls soccer. Taylor Lauck and Dierdre McGill each scored twice to lead the Tigers.

Madison Oelker, Peyton Kerns, Gabby Hollar, Destiny Kolota and Paige Shafer each scored as well. Hollar had 2 assists and Kerns had an assist.

WL-S (5-1-0, 3-1-0 OHC) plays Mechanicsburg on Tuesday.

UHS girls fall

Anna defeated Urbana 2-1 in non-league girls soccer Saturday. Anna scored both goals on own goals by Urbana. Jennifer Tracy scored for the Hillclimbers. Sara Lingrell had 3 saves.
