The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the community’s help in finding a teen missing since last month.

The sheriff’s office sent out an alert around 1 a.m. Thursday asking anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Weslie Long, 13, to contact the sheriff’s office at 937-653-3409.

The notification states Long was last seen in Christiansburg on Aug. 28.

Sheriff Matt Melvin said Thursday the sheriff’s office was contacted on Sept. 4 by counselors at Graham Local Schools who advised she had been absent from school for five days.

The notification sent to residents states Long is reportedly traveling with a male named Charles Alexander, who is driving a red Ford Taurus. Information on the vehicle’s registration, direction of travel or destination is unknown.

Alexander is Long’s legal guardian, according to Melvin. He said the sheriff’s office entered Long into a nationwide database for law enforcement and is attempting to locate her and check her welfare.

Information posted by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office describes Long as 5-feet 1-inch tall, 200 pounds with brown hair and eyes.

Thursday’s notification was sent to residents by the sheriff’s office through the NIXLE system. This allows the department to send alerts to residents through text messages or email alerts regarding break-ins, burglaries, wanted and missing people as well as safety and community event information.

These alerts can be targeted to certain neighborhoods, regions, or multiple areas within the county. Residents interested in receiving these alerts can sign up on the sheriff’s office website (http://www.champaignohiosheriff.com).
