Pigskin Picks

Boy, did we really blow it last week.

We went a sorry 2-3 in our picks to open the football season, much to our chagrin.

Misses came on London over Urbana, Indian Lake over Triad and Valley View over WL-S, although at least that last game was close, as we had noted it would be.

Hopefully, we will improve in Week 2.

Tonight’s Games

Urbana (0-1) at Piqua (1-0) – What did we learn about the Hillclimbers in last week’s 42-30 loss to London?

Sophomore Levi Boettcher has a lot of potential at quarterback, and Urbana’s defense needs to make some adjustments.

Piqua will be a tough opponent, so we’re going with PHS to win.

Fairbanks (0-1) at Mechanicsburg (1-0) – The Indians blasted West Jefferson, 43-8, last week, and probably could have scored even more points if they had wanted to.

Fairbanks likely won’t put up much of a fight this evening, so we’re going with Mechanicsburg to prevail.

Catholic Central (1-0) at Graham (0-1) – The Falcons had a very bad night at Tipp last week in a 56-0 loss, and we are certain that Catholic Central is not nearly as good as Tipp.

But the Irish are probably good enough to pull out a victory at GHS tonight.

We’re picking Central to win.

North Union (1-0) at Triad (0-1) – The Cardinals also had a very bad night at Indian Lake last week in a 41-0 setback.

North Union opened the season with a win over Cardington-Lincoln, so this could be another toughie for Triad.

We’re going with North Union to prevail.

WL-S (0-1) at Ben Logan (1-0) – The Tigers got behind Valley View too far, too early last week in a 37-31 loss.

Had the game last another few minutes, WL-S might have rallied for the win.

Ben Logan is coming off a rout of Fairbanks, so the Raiders must have a decent team.

Nonetheless, we’re picking WL-S to win.

Saturday’s Game

Glenville State (0-0) at Urbana U. (0-0) – New UU Coach Tyler Haines seems to have the Blue Knights on the right track, but we have concerns about the Blue Knight offense this season.

This game could be close, but we’re going with Glenville State to prevail.
