Dollar Tree Inc. confirmed it will open its Urbana store at 1620 E. U.S. Route 36 on Tuesday, July 28.

“Dollar Tree continues to grow,” said Chelle Davis, Dollar Tree spokesperson. “We are proud to be part of the Urbana community and are looking forward to our July grand opening.”

Davis said the 9,000-square-foot facility will employ 10-15 associates.

Store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

On April 7, the Urbana City Council passed an ordinance adopting a statement of services to be provided to the property, a 2.052-acre parcel located in Urbana Township.

As part of the agreement, the property is in the process of being annexed into the city.

On July 21, council heard the second reading of an ordinance accepting the property into the city. Following an anticipated third and final reading on Aug. 4, the annexation, if approved, would become official 30 days later, city Community Development Manager Doug Crabill said.

“It looks nice out there,” council member Doug Hoffman said. “I’m willing to accept them into the city with my vote.”
