The Urbana Rotary Club’s annual chicken BBQ dinner and fireworks display will take place Tuesday, July 4, at Grimes Field.
Rotary Club members will serve barbecue chicken 3:30-7 p.m. The price of the meal is $8. Patrons can purchase a meal ticket at the event or in advance at Perpetual Federal Savings Bank, 120 N. Main St. Afterward, people who are still hungry can drop by concession stands in the main hangar to purchase hot dogs, bratwurst, ice cream bars, soda and water.
The annual fireworks show will begin at 10 p.m.
According to Tim Martin, Rotary co-chairman of the annual celebration, proceeds will help fund the Rotary Club’s various charitable distributions, including scholarships for Urbana High School students.
Arts Council concert
Prior to the fireworks, a free concert featuring Hotel California will take place at 7 p.m. at the airport. People are encouraged to bring their own outdoor chairs or blankets for the concert. The concert is part of the Champaign County Arts Council’s free summer series.
Paying tribute to The Eagles, Hotel California has performed its Southern California sound of the 1970s around the globe since the 1980s. The group has shared the stage with The Doobie Bros., Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gretchen Wilson, REO Speedwagon and others. Members of Hotel California have performed in other touring bands, such as The Guess Who, April Wine, Glass Tiger, Coney Hatch and Foot In Cold Water.
Both the Champaign Aviation Museum and the Flying Lab will be closed July 4.
