ST. PARIS – Graham Local Schools will have new faces on its school board come January 2016.

Voters approved newcomers Ryan Pine, Miranda Uhl and incumbent Mike Ludlow for three open school board slots. The district had three school board seats to be filled; current board members Duane Miller and Pat Wagner chose not to run.

Ludlow received 2,400 votes (31.6 percent), Pine received 1,984 votes (26.1 percent) and Uhl received 1,695 votes (22.3 percent). Newcomer G. Shockley Wier received 1,517 votes (20 percent). Vote totals are unofficial, meaning they include absentee ballots but not provisionals.

“I am very thankful for the support of the Graham community and look forward to continuing to serve as their representative on the board of education,” Ludlow said. “I am especially excited about our opportunity to select a new superintendent, and I urge community members and staff to participate in the upcoming public forums to give input on what traits and qualifications they would like to see in our superintendent.”

Ludlow was appointed earlier this year to fill the unexpired term of former board member Alan Mitchell.

“I am very excited to be elected to the Graham board,” Uhl said. “I’m looking forward to using my experience in the classroom to benefit the families of the Graham community. Being a board member is a huge responsibility and I’m eager to begin my term.”

Pine said he also appreciated the community’s support: “I’m excited for the opportunity to work with the rest of our school board and the district’s administration to ensure that our schools are a place of opportunity for our students.”

Unofficial vote counts put Champaign County’s voter turnout at 48.25 percent. The official vote count will be Nov. 17.
