MUTUAL – Madden Road Music Fest is set to take place on Saturday, Aug. 15 on the old Madden Farm in Mutual. Madden Farm has been in the same family for seven generations and serves as the venue for the family’s micro music festival, held annually in August.

Musicians from Dayton, Columbus, and Champaign County will take the stage, bringing a mix of indie, folk, gospel, bluegrass and Americana roots music to the festival. The event is hosted by Daniel Dye, a local singer-songwriter, along with his nieces and nephews, who make up the Miller Road Band and play regionally with their uncle. Daniel Dye & the Miller Road Band play original tunes using classical and folk instruments and styles.

“We call our festival a ‘micro music fest’” Dye said. “It takes place on just one day, but we pack a lot of great music in the hours we have together.”

Highlights include performances from Columbus-based musician Hebdo, a singer-songwriter whose music is in heavy rotation on local radio station and beyond, and master folk musician and composer Bob Lucas, fresh off a tour and playing on stage with members of his equally talented family.

South Vienna band The Great Wide Open has developed a local following with their high-energy sound created using traditional instruments, making “simple music about finding what’s real in life.”

Springfield-based rock duo The Florals feature “punk chord progressions and whimsical lyrics” and the festival closes with a high-powered performance by William the Accountant, winners of this 2015 CD102.5 Local Artist Showcase, playing “Zero Stroke music, a new genre with its roots composed of Brazilian samba, New Orleans second line and traditional rock… .”

A lineup of singer-songwriters will take a second stage, with Jill & Micah, sisters Trudi Kurtz and Joelle Hochstedler, Matt Monta and Zach Whitney bringing styles ranging from soulful and lyrical to hard-hitting authentic country to the festival.

One of the features of the Madden Road Music Fest is that extended members of the Dye family join the band on stage for a few numbers, a throwback to the days when Dye sang with his siblings and parents growing up in Champaign County.

Local food producers will be at the festival, with Oakview Farm Fresh meats and Cosmic Charlie Pizza My Heart pizza by the slice available. Fresh baked goods provided by the Screen Door Bakery and fresh-roasted coffee by Hemisphere Coffee Roasters will be set up all day.

Hemisphere Coffee Roasters is the 2015 Madden Road Music Fest partner, sponsoring community programming through their support of local musicians and local food producers.

Day passes are $5 for students and seniors, $10 for adults, maximum $25 per family, with proceeds to support the restoration of Madden Road Music Hall. Passes can be purchased online or at the festival. On-site parking is available. For more information or to purchase tickets call 937-244-6481 or go to www.maddenroadmusic.com
