New ‘Blessing Boards’ posted locally

Local groups are teaming up to make the Urbana community a kinder place by posting “Blessing Boards” in area businesses and organizations.

The goal is to help people “pay it forward” to assist their fellow community members who might be struggling with hunger. Start-up funds were donated by the Urbana VFW Post 5451.

Tammy Dunham has coordinated the effort with help from local veterans organizations.

“What if we came together as a community to address hunger? What if we all did just a little? This is an opportunity to give when and what you can,” Dunham explained about the new effort.

The Blessing Boards can be found at the Urbana VFW intake office, at Mumford’s Deli, Rotary Manor and Messiah Community. The boards offer gift certificates for food, coffee and soda to be redeemed at the corresponding restaurants that include Mumford’s, the Spotted Cow and Farmer’s Daughter, according to information from Dunham.

“Our hope is that these Blessing Boards will be self-supporting,” Dunham said. “Please help us keep these Blessing Boards going by purchasing food, coffee or soda certificates from any vendor you choose and placing the certificates on the board. Bless us all by paying it forward.”
