Fire damages house on Route 235

ST. PARIS – A dwelling was damaged in an early-morning house fire in the 3000 block of state Route 235 on Monday.

According to information from Johnson-St. Paris Fire District, at 2:17 a.m. crews from JSP Fire District were dispatched to the 3000 block of north Route 235 for a fire in a structure.

No specific address was made public. When crews arrived, they found a two-story residence with heavy smoke showing from the second floor. Mutual aid was requested from Rosewood Volunteer Fire Department, Christiansburg Fire Company, Fletcher Volunteer Fire Department and Urbana Fire Division.

Crews were able to quickly gain access into the attic space and extinguish the fire. One person was transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

“We would like to thank all our mutual aid companies that helped out. St. Paris PD, Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Pioneer Electric Cooperative, The Red Cross and Champaign County Communications Center for all their assistance,” said JSP leaders.
