Country singer born in Mutual dies

Country and Christian music singer-songwriter Margo Smith, born Betty Lou Miller in Mutual in 1939, has passed away at the age of 84.

She was born in Mutual but spent her early life in Clark County.

She was a graduate of Wittenberg University and worked as a teacher in Clark County before gaining fame as a country and Christian singer.

Smith started performing professionally in her mid-30s and her early recording success was with 20th Century Fox after moving with her first husband, Ken Smith, to Nashville.

Her first major hit was “There I Said It” in the middle 1970s.

At the time of her death, Margo Smith Cammeron was married to Richard Cammeron.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. in the Harpeth Christian Church, 1101 Gardner Dr., Franklin, Tennessee.
