COLUMBUS – Several athletes from Champaign County schools placed in the top eight at last weekend’s state track meet to earn All-Ohio honors.
On Friday in Division II, WL-S’s Logan Saylor placed 6th in the boys long jump with a leap of 21-4.
In addition, the Tigers’ 4×800 boys relay team comprised of Isaac Brown, Tate Yoder, Quentin Rudolph and Dylan Lauck placed 8th in a school record time of 8:04.04.
“Reaching the podium and being All-Ohio is every track kid’s dream,” said WL-S Coach Aaron Lauck. “It was great to see Logan Saylor in 6th place in the long jump and the 4×800 team achieve 8th place. Dylan and Tate both ran personal record splits which was awesome. It was a great opportunity to compete with the very best in the state at a wonderful facility.”
On Friday in Division III, WL-S’s girls 4×800 relay team comprised of Megan Adams, Ashley Yoder, Teagan Boyd and Mallory Bostick placed 5th in 9:48.11.
In addition, Mechanicsburg’s Payton Murphy placed 7th in the girls discus with a throw of 122-1.
On Saturday in Division III, WL-S’s Adams placed 3rd in the girls 3,200-meter run in a time of 11:05.01.
“Megan will go down as one of the best student athletes we’ve had at West Liberty-Salem,” said WL-S Coach Ann Vogel. “Her leadership and work ethic will leave an impact on our program for years to come.”
WL-S’s Delaney Jones placed 4th in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.33.
Mechanicsburg’s 4×200 boys relay team comprised of Kailen Butler, Jack Wolf, Peyton Leeson and Jake Hurst placed 2nd in 1:30.05.
Mechanicsburg’s 4×100 boys relay team comprised of Butler, Wolf, Hurst and Leeson placed 5th in 43.88.
As a team, the WL-S girls placed 11th in Division III.
“We placed higher than our seeded times with everyone earning All-Ohio honors … you can’t ask for much more than that,” said Vogel. “The girls were focused, prepared and got the job done.”
The Mechanicsburg boys team placed 18th in Division III.
