Youth Fishing Derby is Saturday at Kiser Lake

ST. PARIS – Kiser Lake State Park will be host a fishing derby for youth on Saturday, July 29. There will be three age groups: those age 13 to 17 years will fish from 9 a.m. until noon; those age 7 to 12 will fish from 10 a.m. until noon, and those age 6 and under will fish from 11 a.m. until noon. Prizes go to the most fish caught in each age group. To access an entry ticket, participants buy a container of bait for $1 and then put their names on the entry tickets.

The fishing area includes the stone pier near the marina and the shoreline around the marina. Fishermen that are 16 and above are required to have a valid fishing license. The marina does not sell fishing licenses but sells fishing equipment and bait. We have loaner poles for those for fishermen wanting to fish at no cost. The park’s naturalist will be on hand to tie on hooks, sinkers and bobbers and provide guidance and fishing pointers. Free lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m.

For more information call 937-362-3565. There are other activities at the campground in the afternoon and evening. Scheduled are creek dipping for critters, archery and outdoor movies at the amphitheater.
