MECHANICSBURG – Two people were flown to a Dayton hospital following a single-vehicle rollover crash Wednesday evening.
According to information from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Gavin Williams, 15, of Urbana, was listed in ICU in critical condition as of Thursday morning, while Anthony B. Russell Jr., 18, of Urbana, was listed in fair condition at Miami Valley Hospital.
On Wednesday at 7:07 p.m., the Champaign Countywide Communication Center received a 911 call in reference to a single-vehicle rollover crash with partial ejection and entrapment in the area of 8873 state Route 4.
Mechanicsburg Fire and EMS, Pleasant Township Fire and EMS along with Champaign County deputies responded.
A 1998 four-door green Honda Civic had been traveling northbound on state Route 4. This vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and the driver over corrected losing control sliding across the southbound lane of travel shearing off a telephone pole and flipping into a corn field.
According to the sheriff’s office, the vehicle was driven by Brandon K. Walls, 16, of Urbana, and was occupied by front seat passenger Faith L. Russell, 16, of Urbana, with Williams and Anthony Russell Jr as back seat passengers.
Williams and Anthony Russell were seriously injured and flown by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital. An updated condition on the two passengers was not available at press time.
Walls and Faith Russell were treated and released at Mercy Memorial Hospital.
The Multi County Crash Investigation Team consisting of Champaign, Union, Logan, and Hardin Counties responded to the accident.
The crash is under investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
