
Five players scored in double figures but Urbana University women’s basketball came up short against visiting Concord 90-75 Thursday night in the Grimes Center.
Sophomore guard Megan Beachy led UU with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, followed by freshman post Sylvia Hudson’s 12 points. Sophomore wing Erin Morrow chipped in 11 points on a perfect 3-of-3 night beyond the arc, freshman guard Morgan Mattimore had 10 points and a team-high six boards and junior Danie Shafer netted 10 points after missing seven games due to injury.
The Mountain Lions were paced by a pair of 20-point outings from Alexis Lowery (26 points, 10 rebounds) and Emily Boothe (20 points). Concord dominated the glass with a 48-31 rebounding advantage and led by as many as 18 in the second quarter.
UU trimmed an 11-point halftime deficit down to four early in the third quarter in order to gain momentum right away out of the locker room. Morrow drained a three during UU’s first possession and then Mattimore followed with a pair of layups, making the score 45-41 with 8:06 left in the frame.
Then, Concord closed out the third with a 13-point lead and cruised through the final period.
UU returns to the Grimes Center on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest against UVa-Wise.
In Thursday night’s late game, the UU men fell to Concord, 98-91.
The Blue Knight men host UVa.-Wise on Saturday at 4 p.m.
