
UNION TOWNSHIP – Two people were transported to a hospital following a two-vehicle injury crash on Wednesday afternoon.
According to information from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, at 12:04 p.m., the Champaign Countywide Communication Center received a 911 call in reference to a two-vehicle crash with possible injuries on state Route 4 at state Route 56.
Mechanicsburg Fire and EMS responded along with sheriff’s deputies.
A blue 2005 Freightline semi truck driven by Robert S. Starcher, 64, of Aurora, had been traveling southbound on state Route 56 and had stopped at the state Route 4 intersection.
Starcher reportedly pulled in front of a white 2015 Toyota Avalon driven by Violetta Delanglade, 80, of Springfield. Her vehicle was traveling northeast on state Route 4.
Delanglade’s vehicle sustained heavy damage and Mechanicsburg Fire crews used the “jaws of life” to extricate the occupants of the vehicle.
Delanglade and passenger Ronald A. Delanglade, were transported by Mechanicsburg EMS to Springfield Regional Hospital.
Both occupants were reportedly awake and alert at the scene. According to hospital officials, Violetta Delanglade was treated and released from the emergency department as of Wednesday afternoon while Ronald Delanglade remained there.
Starcher was cited for failure to yield.
