Indians play top-seeded Marion Local at Sidney

COLUMBUS — On Sunday, the OHSAA released its regional final sites for the high school football playoffs.

In Division VI, Region 24, third-seeded Mechanicsburg (12-0) plays top-seeded Marion Local (11-1) at Sidney Memorial Stadium on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

“Our kids are familiar with Sidney – and not only are they familiar, but we enjoyed the atmosphere and the setup,” MHS Coach Kurt Forrest said. “We’ve had a lot of good experiences, but Sidney’s one that they really seem to enjoy. Everyone’s pretty happy with that.”

The Flyers and Indians will battle again after a tight, low-scoring affair ended with Marion Local on top last season in the regional final.

There are 15 undefeated teams left statewide at this stage, with Division VI housing five of them. Marion Local is also one of 15 top seeds to advance to the regional finals. That doesn’t seem to bother Forrest.

“You put the ball down and we’ll play. You put it in the parking lot or a corn field and we’ll play,” Forrest said.
