Two former Security National Bank employees facing criminal charges for allegedly stealing over $350,000 from the bank appeared in court for arraignment hearings Wednesday.

Kristen S. Head, 34, and Kristie K. Shover, 46, were both indicted this month on one count each of aggravated theft, receiving stolen property and tampering with records for allegedly stealing money from Security National Bank, 828 Scioto St.

During her arraignment, Head pleaded not guilty to the charges and a scheduling conference in her case is scheduled for Oct. 31.

No plea was entered during Shover’s arraignment hearing as she was found indigent and will return to court for a continued arraignment on Friday.

Both co-defendants were granted a personal recognizance bond and were ordered to have no contact with each other.

Urbana Police Chief Matt Lingrell said last week that Urbana police began an investigation on July 14 into a long-term internal theft case involving Shover and Head, who had been employed at the bank. Police were assisted in their investigation by the management and security of the bank.

The investigation determined that $391,000 was stolen from the bank over a period of time dating back to 2009, at a time Shover was a teller and Head was the head teller.

Later Head was promoted to office manager and Shover was promoted to head teller of the bank.

The grand jury indictment contends that the tampering with records charge stems from Shover and Head allegedly creating fraudulent transactions and altering bookkeeping or audit records of Security National Bank to conceal the theft of money from the bank.

Lingrell said Shover was terminated from her employment with the bank as its head teller on July 14. She had been employed with the bank since 2004.

Lingrell said Head had been employed at bank since 2001 until she resigned in 2014 as the bank’s office manager.

Co-defendants in golf course break-ins appear in court

Two co-defendants accused of breaking into golf courses in multiple counties appeared in court for arraignment hearings Wednesday.

Joshua R. Blakely, 18, and Skyler L. Reisinger, 18, are both charged with four counts of breaking and entering and one count each of safecracking, grand theft when the property is a firearm or dangerous ordnance, receiving stolen property, theft and possessing criminal tools.

Champaign County Sheriff Matt Melvin previously stated sheriff’s detectives linked Blakely and Reisinger to multiple break-ins at the Urbana Country Club, Lakeland Golf Course, Indian Springs Golf Club and the Mad River Farm Market.

The grand jury indictment contends the co-defendants’ conduct occurred between Aug. 15 and Sept. 7.

On Wednesday, Blakely pleaded not guilty to the charges and a scheduling conference in his case is scheduled for Oct. 31. Blakely was granted a personal recognizance bond and was ordered not to have contact with his co-defendant and another individual as ordered by the court, have no contact with any golf course in Champaign, Clark or Logan County, and observe a curfew of 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Saturday.

No plea was entered during Reisinger’s arraignment as he was found indigent and will return to court for a continued arraignment on Friday. Reisinger was also placed on a personal recognizance bond and ordered to have no contact with Blakely, any golf course in Champaign, Clark or Logan County, and observe a curfew of 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Saturday unless he is working.

According to the Logan County Clerk of Courts website, both co-defendants were indicted on Oct. 11 in Logan County for breaking and entering charges related to golf courses in that county.
