Urbana High School’s 2016 Homecoming festivities began with Spirit Week at the high school on Monday, Oct. 3. Students were encouraged to dress according to daily themes: Mismatched Monday; Tacky Tourist Tuesday; “What’s your age?” Wednesday (seniors dress as toddlers, juniors dress as pre-teens, sophomores dress as middle aged individuals, and freshmen dress as senior citizens); Twin Thursday; and Climber Crazy Friday.

Festivities continue Thursday, Oct. 6, with the Homecoming Parade, which starts at the high school at 6:30 p.m. This year the grand marshal will be high school custodian Ed Haynes. The parade also will feature last year’s queen, Lily Jones, this year’s Homecoming court finalists (juniors Morgan Bandy, Maginta Grim, Des Johnson; seniors Madison Larocque, Ali Milner, Hanna Newman, Bridget Ofori and Karsen Voorhees), junior court (Libby Arnett, Taje Mack, Emma Rickett) and senior court-queen hopefuls Dakota Bloemhard, Olivia Dunham, Marra Evans, Madisyn Horn, Hunter Rogan. The parade will include the UHS band and cheerleaders, varsity and junior varsity football teams, students on a float decorated with this year’s theme “Under the Sea,” and a variety of other groups.

The parade will follow its usual route – heading east on Washington Avenue at the high school, turning south onto East Lawn Avenue, west onto Scioto Street, north onto Main Street, east onto Washington Avenue and, finally, turning north onto Wood Street in front of the UHS football stadium.

Immediately following the parade will be a Community Pep Rally at the UHS football stadium where Ed Haynes, Lily Jones and the Homecoming court and finalists will be introduced.

On Friday, Oct. 7, the Urbana Hillclimbers take on the Bellefontaine Chieftains. The queen will be crowned at 6:45 p.m., and the game begins at 7 p.m. This year’s Homecoming festivities conclude 8-11 p.m. Saturday with the Homecoming Dance.
