Indians rated third in Division VI, Region 24

In the latest prep football computer playoff poll, Mechanicsburg (5-0) is rated third in Division VI, Region 24.

The top eight teams in each region advance to the playoffs and the top four will host a first-round game.

Mechanicsburg hosts WL-S (2-3) Friday night.

M’burg wins golf sectional

At the Division III boys golf sectional at Beechwood on Tuesday, Mechanicsburg won the tournament and qualified for district competition with a 341. Triad placed ninth.

For the Indians, Caleb Westfall shot a 79, Corey Bogan an 87, Jack Shoemaker an 87, Keane Dunn an 88 and David McMahill a 104.

For the Cardinals, Caleb Young shot an 87, Alec Ober an 88, Braxton Perry a 104, Creighton Bradley a 105 and Austin Deere a 113.

The Indians will compete at the district tournament at Beavercreek Golf Club next Tuesday.

JH volleyball

West Liberty-Salem’s 8th grade volleyball team beat Mechanicsburg, 25-23, 25-23. For the Tigers, Madeline Hutton had 4 aces, Selena Weaver had 3 kills and Olivia Muirhead had 3 assists.

Mechanicsburg won the 7th grade match 25-15, 17-25, 25-13. For the Tigers, Kierra Gilroy had 2 aces and Michele Smith had a kill.

JH football

Greenon defeated Urbana, 44-17, in junior high football. Trey Williams had 2 rushing touchdowns and Riley Wilson threw a touchdown to Kendel Dobie for UJHS.

Jayvee soccer

The West Liberty-Salem jayvee girls soccer team beat Emmanuel Christian, 1-0.

Rylie Brown scored on an assist from Addy Johnson.

The WL-S girls soccer game vs. Madison Plains has been moved to Monday, Oct. 10 at WL-S at 6 p.m.
