Concord precinct moves to Concord UM Church

The Champaign County Board of Elections on Thursday unanimously voted to move the Concord voting precinct from the Concord Community Center to Concord United Methodist Church, 2963 N. state Route 560. The board intends to mail informational letters to the precinct’s 967 registered voters within the next week.

Board of Elections Director Meredith Bodey said the church offers better access for those who are handicapped and more parking.

Another change for the Nov. 8 general election, she said, will be for those who vote at polling sites with more than one precinct. As long as voters get to the correct polling site, it doesn’t matter which precinct line they choose. Each poll worker will have ballots for all precincts at the site.

For example, Bodey said, the county Community Center will have four tables staffed by poll workers. Voters assigned to that polling site can choose the shortest line, tell the poll worker which precinct they’re in and receive their ballots.

This change is due to a state mandate made in April.

Absentee voting by mail and early in-person voting at the board of elections begins Oct. 12.

People can visit the board of elections for early voting 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays starting Oct. 12, as well as 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays, Oct. 29 and Nov. 5; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6.

The board of elections is located in the county Community Center on South U.S. Route 68 in Urbana.
