Three missing children found in Florida

Three local children listed as missing and endangered were located Thursday morning in Florida, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement sought the public’s assistance Wednesday night via Facebook in locating 3-year-old twins Madelynne and Michayla Hannah and 2-year-old Kalie Hannah after they were last seen with suspects Staci M. Snyder, 26, and James L. Haynes, 37, traveling in a silver 2002 Chrysler Town and Country bearing Ohio registration.

Champaign County Chief Deputy Rick Jordan said Thursday afternoon the incident is under investigation pending possible charges for the two adult suspects. He said the children were in Lake City, Fla., with the local child and family services as the children’s legal guardian, the children’s grandmother, was en route to pick them up.

Jordan said Snyder is the mother of the children but does not have guardianship over the children. He said guardianship was awarded to the children’s grandmother on Tuesday.

Jordan said the sheriff’s office was notified of the missing children late Wednesday morning and were notified that the children were found Thursday morning. The Lake City Police Department located the van in a motel parking lot.

Jordan thanked the efforts of the Caring Kitchen and other local agencies in helping to assist the children’s grandmother in traveling to Florida.

Caring Kitchen Executive Director Marilyn Cohn said the shelter provided clothing and other items to help the grandmother. Caring Kitchen Assistant Director Tara Jordan said Champaign County Family and Children First and Sycamore House also provided items such as clothes, bedding, diapers and also received an anonymous contribution for gas and food cards.

“This is an amazing community that works together in a time of crisis,” Cohn said.
