Columbia Gas of Ohio will begin another major pipeline improvement project in Urbana this summer. The company will upgrade more than four miles of natural gas mainline and 400 customer service lines with plastic pipe.
The project includes a number of streets near Ward Street and Locust Street. Customers benefiting from this work were notified via letter and invited to an informational meeting 6-7 p.m. today (Monday) at Urbana Methodist Church, 238 N. Main St.
Preliminary construction work, such as staking of right of way and inspection of sewer lines, is expected soon in the area. The construction work requires a temporary interruption of natural gas service. Columbia Gas will make personal contact with customers prior to shutting off service and to schedule service restoration.
Customers with indoor meters will have them moved outside of the home. An outdoor meter eliminates the risk of shut-off due to access issues, and provides first responders with easy access to the meter during an emergency. Any meter move-out and customer service line replacement will be done at no additional cost to the customer. Columbia Gas has stated it will restore all property to the same or better condition, including streets, sidewalks, lawns and driveways.
All Columbia employees and contractors carry identification cards bearing their name, photograph and identification number and will be happy to show it.
This project is part of Columbia Gas of Ohio’s larger program that invests nearly $2 billion over 25 years to improve its more than 20,000-mile underground pipeline system.
