Note card purchases go toward church bell restoration

The work of local artist Margaret Manhart Denzer is featured on packages of note cards now available for sale. The Communications Committee of First Presbyterian Church of Urbana requested the use of her oil painting, Iris, for the cards. The committee states that the profits will benefit the Bell Restoration Fund of the church.

Denzer has enjoyed producing art works since her days in a Junior High School class in Bowling Green, Ohio. Her teacher was inspirational and encouraged her efforts. Her paintings are produced in several media, but she has come to prefer oils. She also has produced some remarkable work in needlepoint and crewel.

For the most part, the artist has studied privately with other artists, including more recent work with Mike Simpson and Mike Major.

Her major at Bowling Green State University was in education, and she was a teacher for thirty years. She also holds a Masters Degree from BGSU.

She taught High School Home Economics and American and World History in several northern Ohio school districts and also in the state of Michigan.

She and her husband, Bill – a Navy veteran, moved to South Carolina in retirement. When he became ill, they came to Urbana to live near family members. She became active in the Urbana Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Twig 13 and the First Presbyterian Church. Since her husband’s death, she has kept her active schedule and continues producing art works.

The Communications Committee hopes to use other of her paintings in future note cards.

Cards are available for sale on Sunday mornings after worship services and through the week at the church office.

The committee has had several money raising projects designed to allow the church bell to sound once again throughout the community.
