Union Township trustees will hold a public hearing on a proposed zoning parcel amendment for 49 N. Ludlow Road later this month.
Township trustees held an emergency meeting Thursday to schedule the public hearing, which will take place at 6:30 p.m. on April 21.
A notice of the public hearing states an additional meeting may be scheduled for a later date, if voting on the proposal by the trustees is not conducted at the public hearing.
The proposed zoning parcel amendment for the North Ludlow Road property was before the township’s zoning commission in February. The proposal was for the property to be rezoned from a U-1 rural underdeveloped district to M-2 heavy manufacturing district. The application was filed by Howell Brothers Development, LLC.
A conditional use permit was granted in October 2015 for the future use of property by the Sutphen Company, a fire equipment refurbishing company. Howell Brothers Development, the property owner, sought rezoning to eliminate the need for future conditional use permits.
During a public hearing on the amendment on March 22, the township zoning commission recommended that the application to rezone the property be denied.
The application for zoning parcel amendment is available for public examination by e-mail request to Union Township Fiscal Officer Linda Gordon at uniontwp_champ.co@hotmail.com.
The application is also available online at the Logan-Union-Champaign Regional Planning Commission website, www.lucplanning.com, under “more” and “this month.”
