Franklin University has been awarded a grant in the amount of $885,000 from the Ohio Department of Education and Department of Higher Education to help high school faculty in Ohio receive the qualifications required to teach College Credit Plus courses, a statewide program that allows seventh through 12th grade students to earn high school and college credit at the same time.

Graduate coursework will be available through Franklin University and Urbana University (acquired by Franklin University in 2014), in partnership with Columbus State Community College and the Educational Services Center of Central Ohio, to offer online, graduate coursework to fulfill College Credit Plus program requirements at no tuition cost to high school faculty through 2017 and reduced tuition through 2020. In addition, related coursework books will be available at a flat fee of $60 per credit hour.

Participating high school faculty are taking courses at Franklin University and Urbana University beginning this month. When their training has been completed, they will be able to teach college-level courses in their high school classrooms.

The College Credit Plus program is designed to allow secondary students to pick up credits by taking classes online, in their home school with a qualified teacher or on a college campus.
