LONDON – The Madison-Champaign Educational Service Center approved a resolution declaring the maximum amount of money it would lease the former Lawnview School for at its Monday meeting.

The resolution is a formality required by the ESC’s attorneys, Superintendent Dr. Dan Kaffenbarger said.

The resolution allowed for leasing the property for no more than $5,000 a year. The ESC is leasing the property at 2200 S. U.S. Route 68 in Urbana from the Champaign County Commissioners for $1 annually for 10 years, according to the lease agreement with the commissioners.

The ESC is also renovating the Lawnview facility, and plans to pay for half the renovations outright, and finance the rest through a bank. Renovations are estimated to cost $374,000; the resolution authorizes up to $250,000 for financing. The ESC needed to pass a separate resolution declaring its tax exempt status as a government entity for financing through a bank.
