Triad baseball team opens with home victory

NORTH LEWISBURG – Triad defeated Tecumseh, 4-3, in 13 innings of non-league baseball on Saturday.

Trent McIntyre struck out 7 batters in four innings of pitching work and also went 3-for-7 with the winning RBI. Trevor Instine was 3-for-6 and Dustin Bruce was 2-for-5 for the Cardinals.

Triad (1-0) plays at Graham on Monday at 5 p.m.

Indians win in extras

UNION CITY – Mechanicsburg defeated Mississinawa Valley, 9-7, in 8 innings of non-league baseball on Saturday.

Corey Bogan had a big game for the Indians, going 2-for-4 with 4 RBI and getting the win on the mound. Tim Miller was 2-for-5 with 3 RBI, including two plated runs with a two-out hit in the 8th inning. Caleb Newsome got the save for the Indians.

Urbana sweeps Southeastern

Urbana beat Southeastern 9-1 and 5-4 in a pair of non-league baseball games on Saturday.

In the first game, Urbana struck for four runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.

For UHS, Skyler Reisinger was 3-for-3 with an RBI and Kaleb Bowdle went 3-for-4. Alex Morrow was 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBI. Trenton Dunham had a pair of RBI.

In the second game, the teams were locked in a 1-1 battle heading to extra innings. In the 8th, Southeastern scratched three runs across the plate, but Urbana responded in kind in the bottom of the frame. Urbana was able to push another run across in the bottom of the 13th to win the game.

For UHS, Bowdle was 2-for-3 with three walks and Reisinger went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI and two walks.

Tigers 4th at Versailles

VERSAILLES – West Liberty-Salem finished fourth in the Black Division of the Versailles Lady Tiger Classique track and field invitational on Saturday.

Morgan Freyhof (100, 13.23) and the 4×200 relay team each finished first for the Tigers.

Caylee Karg (100 hurdles, 17.73), Reghan Bieleski (1,600, 5:47), Morgan Freyhof (200, 27.86) and Janie Kopus (400, 64.87) each finished second.

Caylee Karg (300 hurdles, 50.61), Reghan Bieleski (800, 2:35), the 4×400 relay team and the 4×100 relay team earned a third place finish.
