Champaign County voters may still have a race to vote on in the commissioner contest come November.
The Republican nominee for Champaign County commissioner will be challenged in the Nov. 8 general election by Barnaby Ofori, who filed as an Independent shortly before Monday’s 4 p.m. deadline. Ofori’s petition must still be validated by the board for him to appear on the November ballot.
In Tuesday’s Republican primary voting, unofficial results with all precincts reporting showed incumbent commissioner David Faulkner defeated challenger Doug Hoffman, 3,849 votes to 3,491. Hoffman is an Urbana city councilman.

Another closely-followed primary contest involved State Senator Keith Faber’s 12th District seat. Faber must exit the senate due to term limits, drawing former state representatives John Adams and Matt Huffman to the race. Huffman was defeating Adams by a ratio of nearly 2-to-1 on Tuesday at press time for the Republican nomination to the November general election ballot.
