WEST LIBERTY – Austin Miller and Emily Schultz are the February Seniors of the Month at West Liberty-Salem High School. The following are their comments.

Austin Miller

PARENTS: Dan and Lindi Miller

School Activities and Awards: Basketball (2 year captain, OHC first team in 2015)

If I were principal for a day: I would cancel school

Favorite school memory: Winning the OHC championship in basketball this season

People who have been an inspiration to me include: My Parents

Because: They have taught me everything, and made me the person I am today.

Lately, I have been reading: Any school work I have to do

My advice to parents: Let your kids make their own decisions, let them go in the direction they want to go.

My biggest regret: I don’t have any regrets

Next year I will be: Enlisting in the Ohio National Guard, and attending college.

Emily Schultz

PARENTS: Chris and Nancy Schultz

School Activities and Awards: Student Council, NHS, Link Crew, Key Club, Spanish Club Secretary, Calc Club, Drama Club, Musical, Mock Trial, Softball, Volleyball Scholar Athlete, Honor Roll, Academic Excellence

If I were principal for a day: I would raise the teacher’s pay and provide catering for their lunch as a “thank you” for all that they’ve put up with this year.

Favorite school memory: There’s too many great memories to think of, however I love how my friends and teachers are like a second family to me, and the countless hours of jokes and laughter we’ve shared are priceless to me.

People who have been an inspiration to me include: All of my teachers, especially Mr. Thomas and Mr. Lewis.

Because: No matter what’s going on in their lives, they always put it on hold to help us out. They make learning fun, and they genuinely care about our education.

Lately, I have been reading: Anything I can get my hands on!

My advice to parents: Be ready to forgive and fast to support. This time in a senior’s life is very stressful, and the words said in anger aren’t always what we mean to say. Now more than ever we need your support. It may not seem like it, but your opinion on our future does affect us more than you know.

My biggest regret: Letting the fear of “what if?” influence my decisions.

Next year I will be: Majoring in Biomedical Engineering at either the United States Military Academy, or at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
