Two people were arrested as the result of a drug-related search warrant the Urbana Police Division served at 986 Terry Lane on Thursday.

According to a press release, several officers served the warrant at the apartment of Heidi Long and John Long at 4:31 p.m. The raid was the result of an investigation that began with a traffic stop of Heidi Long on Feb. 20 by Officer Brandon McCain. She was arrested on warrants for failure to appear in court on previous charges.

Urbana Police Chief Matt Lingrell stated that over the course of the last few days, additional investigative information was garnered by police leading them to obtain a court-ordered search warrant of the apartment for illegal drug offenses. Police had to conduct a forced entry to the apartment and neither officers nor the residents were injured during entry.

Police recovered evidence of heroin, Suboxone, various prescription pills, marijuana and various drug paraphernalia items in their search.

The Longs, who are not married, were arrested, interviewed at the police division and taken to Tri-County Regional Jail, Mechanicsburg.

Heidi Long was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance (prescription pills) and one count each of possession of heroin, child endangering, possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Her bond was established at $20,000 during an arraignment hearing in the Champaign County Municipal Court Friday. A hearing is scheduled for Monday.

John Long was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance (prescription pills), two counts of trafficking in drugs and one count each of child endangering, possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia.

His bond was also established at $20,000 Friday and a hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.

A six-year-old child was present during the raid and was turned over to a relative to care for him.

“We know many families are hurting due to the impact of drug addiction issues, but we encourage our citizens to reach out to us whenever they suspect illegal activities are taking place throughout the community,” Lingrell stated. “It may save a life or lives.”
