A North Lewisburg man was charged with domestic violence Tuesday following alleged conduct at his residence.

Timothy J. Cauley Jr., 46, of 70 Walnut St., was charged with two fourth degree misdemeanor counts of domestic violence, two first degree misdemeanor counts of menacing and one first degree misdemeanor count of improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle.

According to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, the Champaign County Wide Communication Center received a 911 call at 4:55 p.m. from a resident of 70 Walnut St. The person was reportedly hysterical and advising dispatchers that Cauley had kicked and broken the front door of the residence.

Dispatchers were told that Cauley entered the residence and he was in an argument with the caller and another resident. While en route, deputies were advised that Cauley left, drove around the block and came back to the residence.

At this time another resident reportedly armed himself with a handgun.

It was reported that Cauley again forced his way into the house where the argument continued. He reportedly left the residence and went outside and obtained a 40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun from his pickup truck.

The caller advised Cauley began walking back up to the house and pointed the weapon at her. She advised she was trying to get Cauley to put the gun down and leave.

Cauley reportedly left the residence again and returned as a deputy arrived. Cauley was ordered out of his vehicle at gunpoint and detained before he was transported to the Tri-County Regional Jail, Mechanicsburg.

The handgun along with a shotgun were secured.

The Champaign County Municipal Court’s website states Cauley pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday. His bond was established at $50,000 and a pretrial hearing is scheduled for Feb. 22.

The Northeast Champaign County Fire and EMS responded to the residence, once it was deemed safe, in reference to a resident having chest pains. This resident was treated at the scene.

Champaign County deputies were assisted by deputies from the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
