Clerk appointed as president of state association


On Dec. 3, Champaign County Clerk of Courts Penny S. Underwood was sworn in as president of the Ohio Clerk of Courts Association (OCCA).

In its 75-year history, this marks the first time a Champaign County clerk has served as president of the association. The oath of office was administered by presiding Judge Lori Reisinger of the Champaign County Common Pleas Court at a ceremony held in Columbus.

Underwood has been on several committees and held three prior officer positions in the OCCA since becoming Champaign County’s clerk of courts on Dec. 8, 2008.

Her term as president will be one year and will end Dec. 1, 2016.

The Champaign County Clerk of Courts comprises of three offices in Urbana including the legal, title and bureau of motor vehicles. Underwood is one of eight clerks in the state who is also a deputy registrar.
