St. Paris church handing out free Christmas decorations

ST. PARIS – In hopes of spreading a little holiday joy throughout local residences this month, the Covenant Lutheran Church, 103 S. Church St., is hosting a Christmas Decoration Giveaway from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

“Many families struggle not only with food and shelter, but they also have no decorations to help them feel better about celebrating with their families,” said Linda Fullerton, church treasurer. “Our community is blessed to have so many places that provide food and gifts this time of year, yet being able to enjoy a tree or decorations can make the Christmas holiday more enjoyable.”

In preparation for the event, new and gently used decorations were collected by the church over the past month.

“We tried this event one other time a couple years ago,” Fullerton said. “It did go very well, so we decided to try it again.”

Fullerton added all the decorations are free of charge, and there is no limit to the amount of decorations one may take.

“People are invited to come in and choose whatever they need or desire,” she said. “Some might be in need of a tree and decorations for that tree, while some might not need that much. We just hope it brings people some joy and satisfaction.”
