Urbana’s Monument Square District gearing up for annual gala

Over the past year, the Monument Square District (MSD) in Urbana has held numerous events, purchased lighted snowflakes for street poles and transformed an empty lot in the southeast corner of downtown into Legacy Park. In order to continue fulfilling its mission “to champion development of an economically, socially and culturally vital central business district …” the MSD Board will hold one of its major fundraisers – the 18th annual Christmas Gala & Auction – from 6 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 2 at The Cheetah Lounge, 211 Glenn Ave. in Urbana.

“The proceeds are returned to beautification projects and other events hosted by the Monument Square District to provide activities, entertainment … etc. to both our local residents and visitors in downtown Urbana,” said MSD Board President Marcia Bailey.

The event will feature a silent auction throughout the evening as well as a live auction at 7:30 p.m. A cash bar will be available, and “heavy hors d’oeuvres” will be served.

“A photo opportunity will also be available to capture the memories of the 2015 Monument Square District Gala,” Bailey said.

Tickets to the event are $25 each and must be reserved by Nov. 20 by calling 937-653-7200, emailing [email protected] or sending a check along with the names of those attending to Diane Kremer at 1472 E. U.S. Route 36, Urbana. All checks should be made payable to Monument Square District.
