WL-S girls 5th at Alliance Invitational

CLAYTON – The West Liberty-Salem girls cross country team finished 5th out of 21 teams at the Alliance Invitational on Saturday.

Reghan Bieleski (17th, 21:33), Caylee Karg (29th, 22:08), Lauren Fowler (31st, 22:14), Leah Cole (51st, 22:49), Sarah Painter (64th, 23:23) and Jenna Magnuson (72nd, 23:45) all competed. Taylor Henault, Madison Woodruff and Anna Louden also ran.

“We did a nice job running as a team after a tough week of training,” WL-S Coach Ann Vogel said. “I’m proud of the way the girls weren’t afraid to shake it up with so many competitive teams in the field.”

The WL-S boys finished 6th out of 23 teams.

Joey Adams (2nd, 16:47), Ross Kelley (15th, 17:37), Nick Williams (45th, 18:26), Andrew Landis (59th, 18:43), Charlie Williams (78th, 19:15) and Isaac Smith (83rd, 19:18) all competed. Jordan Lewis and Tyler Louden also ran.

“We just have to keep focusing on improving and competing outside our comfort zones,” WL-S Coach Mike Louden said.

Graham hosted the Graham Invitational, with the girls finishing fifth. Sarah Henry (10th, 23:19) led the Falcons.

Urbana’s girls were also in action at Graham, with Tabitha McCall finishing 12th in 23:33. Kendra Arnett (43rd, 26:04) and Cierra Sturgell (47th, 26:33) also competed.

The Graham boys finished in third. Carter Callison (5th, 18:40) led the Falcons.

The UHS boys finished 8th. Tristan Lynxwiler was 8th in 18:56 to lead the way. Alec Freeman (13th, 19:19), Riley Emmons (73rd, 22:58), Trevor Pittsenbarger (77th, 23:24) and Jaxton Bloemhard (88th, 24:31) also ran.

Triad splits in volleyball

Triad defeated Walnut Ridge, 25-16, 25-11, in non-league volleyball on Saturday.

Madison Dolby had 6 kills and 9 assists, while Caleigh Watson had 4 kills and 8 assists for Triad.

Catholic Central defeated the Cardinals, 25-18, 25-13.

Jenna Ober had 5 kills and 4 digs and Brianna Eaton had 3 kills and 2 blocks for Triad.

WL-S tops Graham in soccer

West Liberty-Salem defeated Graham, 7-1, in non-league boys soccer on Saturday.

Neil Markin, Cole McDaniel and Bishop Williamson each had 2 goals. Jacob VanHorn added one goal. McDaniel recorded 2 assists while Markin, Raiph Levan and Logan Cole each had one assist.

Elias Kirker-Napiorkowski had 3 saves in goal while Zane Woodruff had 2 saves.

WL-S girls beat Falcons

West Liberty-Salem defeated Graham, 5-1, in non-league girls soccer on Saturday.

For the Tigers, Annika Wolfe and Dierdre McGill each had 2 goals. Taylor Lauck also scored.

Gabby Hollar had 3 assists and Lily Yoder had an assist. Paige Shafer saved a shot.

The jayvee Tigers also won, 3-0. Peyton Kerns, Laura Neer and Madison Bender each scored.

Laura Neer had 7 saves in goal and Rachel McGill had 5 saves.

Mechanicsburg crushes Yellow Springs

Mechanicsburg defeated Yellow Springs, 7-0, in non-league girls soccer on Saturday.

For the Indians, Tori Jacobs had 3 goals and an assist and Kameron Loveless had 3 goals and an assist. Sydney Hux had a goal and an assist.

Chayna Sanford had 5 saves in goal.

Junior high cross country

The West Liberty-Salem Middle School cross country teams competed at the Graham Invitational.

The girls won the event. Grace Adams (1st, 12:32), Katelyn Stapleton (2nd, 12:46) and Madison Bahan (3rd, 13:10) paced the Tigers. Lydie Moell, Aaliyah Speert, Savannah Weaver, Tory Pawelko, Sailor Levan, Mikaela Holbridge, Lili Davis and Jessie Boy all ran.

The boys team finished third. Noah Smith (2nd, 12:01), Gavin Harrison (19th, 13:30) and Cade Clerico (20th, 13:39) were the top finishers for the Tigers. Hayden Kennedy, Ian Maurice and Cody Matthews-Moore all competed.

The Urbana girls placed 6th. Bree Stouffer was 16th 15:06, Grace Hepp was 24th 15:27, Makenna Radford was 33rd 16:13, Sam Rooney was 34th 16:16, Jenny Zaborowski was 50th 17:35, Kelsey Hackley was 57th 17:58

For the boys, Daniel Westcott was 10th 12:57, Atticus Bloemhard was 27th 14:04 and Roan Dawson was 62nd 18:27.
