This Saturday’s Ned Garver/Dick LeBeau Legends Golf Classic at Mitchell Hills Club in Springfield will feature some new faces.
New to the event this year will be Cincinnati Bengals’ Coach Marvin Lewis, former Bengals’ defensive standout David Fulcher, legendary Cleveland Browns’ offensive tackle Dick Schafrath and Urbana University men’s basketball coach Rob Summers, who in his collegiate playing days led West Virginia University to a Sweet 16 berth in the NCAA tournament and an NIT championship the following season.
Lewis, Fulcher and Schafrath all have strong ties to LeBeau.
Lewis worked under LeBeau as a defensive assistant with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Fulcher played for LeBeau in Cincinnati.
Schafrath and fellow Legends Classic participant Galen Cisco were teammates with LeBeau on Ohio State’s 1957 national championship team.
Garver, 89, has hosted the Legends Golf Classic for the past three years but will be unable to attend this year due to illness.

I had the pleasure of playing 18 holes with LeBeau last week at London Country Club, and he shot an amazing two-under 70 playing from the back tees in a monsoon.
Not bad for a guy who will turn 78 in September just a few days before he works his first game as the Tennessee Titans’ assistant head coach/defense.
