MECHANICSBURG – No injuries were reported following a train derailment Wednesday in the village.

Mechanicsburg Police Chief John Alexander said police were dispatched at 1:06 p.m. Wednesday on a call of a train derailment. He said the derailment occurred between the Heritage Cooperative building and state Route 4.

Upon arrival, police found the crossing gates down and a locomotive on the track with several grain cars behind it that had come off the track.

Railroad officials were called to oversee operations while the R.J. Corman Railroad Group was called to bring the derailed cars upright. The cars were empty and local police, fire and EMS worked together to get traffic flowing.
