City Park to host community festival

Children, teens and adults will enjoy Urbana’s Melvin Miller Park to its fullest July 10 and 11 during the Urbana Community ParkFest!, coordinated by the Urbana Parks and Recreation Department with the support of numerous sponsors (see sidebar).

From one end of the park to the other, the festival offers a full schedule of live music, several tournaments such as tennis, sand volleyball, disc golf and pickleball, two pool parties, a fishing derby, tethered hot air balloon rides, a cruise-in, beer and wine tasting, and food and beverages. The park is located at 731 Childrens Home Road and is accessible from Park Lane.

Many events are free, while a portion of the proceeds from others will help support a new Capital Improvement Fund established for the City of Urbana’s parks and recreation facilities.

“We look forward to having as many people as possible come out to ParkFest! and enjoy the full range of facilities that Melvin Miller Park has to offer,” Chris Stokes, Parks and Recreation superintendent, said. “The park has a lot to offer, from our pool, ball fields and tennis courts to our newer additions such as the disc golf course, the dog park and the remote control race track. The park is a true community asset.”
