Springfield Symphony Orchestra offers Lunch on the Lawn

SPRINGFIELD – The Springfield Symphony Orchestra will present Lunch on the Lawn, a series of free, informal ensemble concerts on the front lawn of the Springfield Museum of Art, 107 Cliff Park Road. The programs will be performed from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on four consecutive Fridays, July 24 to Aug. 14.

Sack lunches are available for $6 (with beverage), while they last. Bring your own lawn chair or put down a blanket under a tree. Seating is also provided under an outdoor tent. In case of rain the performances will move inside the museum.

Music for Lunch on the Lawn includes a mixture of classical and popular music by diverse groups and artists. For the series opener, Bob Ford presents his folk-song stylings and off the wall tales of a humorous and lighthearted nature. Also new to the series this year is Moment’s Notice, a band with a wide range of styles including classic rock, R&B, country, jazz, and more. Moment’s Notice, which includes Wright State University Director of Percussion Jerry Noble, has opened for national artists such as the Charlie Daniels Band and the Fabulous Thunderbirds.

GoodVibes returns with smooth jazz, blues, swing and standard favorites. Closing out the series, Symphony musicians, with Colvin Bear, head up the SSO Woodwind Quintet, classical musicians who play a variety of styles. Admission to museum exhibits is free to event patrons after the concert.

The schedule is:

July 24 – Bob Ford

July 31 – Moment’s Notice

August 7 – GoodVibes

August 14 – SSO Woodwind Quintet
